Ji Mingyu held the girl close, his arms wrapped around her as he gently caressed her soft, fevered cheek. With tender affection, he pressed countless soft kisses against her swollen, sweet lips.
Finally, he couldn’t help but lean over, picked up Xi Yue, and walked to the bed.
Xi Yue’s eyes were hazy, her enchanting eyes clouded with a misty sheen. A faint blush touched her delicate skin, enhancing her already breathtaking beauty and making her even more captivating.
However, Ji Mingyu’s actions suddenly woke her up, with a look of panic on her face.
Just as she was about to struggle, Ji Mingyu gently placed her on the bed. His long, cool fingers traced her brows, then her nose, and finally her lips. He muttered, “Xi, I’ve finally found you.”
The identical face, the familiar tenderness, the loving and indulgent words, and that special name only meant for her—it all left her in a daze, her thoughts momentarily scattered.
She reached out her hand and gently touched Ji Mingyu’s warm cheek, whispering “Who are you?”
Ji Mingyu looked at her intensely, “Who do you want me to be?”
“Yu?” Xi Yue’s voice was soft and hoarse, with a slight sob. “Yu, is that you?”
Ji Mingyu’s eyes flickered, and then he said without hesitation, “It’s me.”
As long as this is what you want, as long as it means keeping you by my side, I’m willing to be anyone you need me to be.
Tears slowly filled Xi Yue’s eyes, slipping down her cheeks. Ji Mingyu reached out, trying to wipe them away, but the tears fell like pearls from a broken string, spilling faster than he could clean them, no matter how hard he tried.
In the end, Xi Yue cried and threw herself into Ji Mingyu’s arms, wailing like a young puppy. Her voice was filled with deep sorrow, longing, and a desperate need for comfort. “Mingyu, do you have any idea how long I’ve searched for you? Do you know how much I’ve missed you? Why didn’t you come to see me? Why couldn’t I find you anywhere? Didn’t you promise me, that no matter what, you’d never leave me, never be apart from me?”
Ji Mingyu felt as though his heart was being pierced by countless sharp needles, each one sinking deeper, sending waves of agonizing pain through him.
It was a pain-filled with both sorrow and compassion for the girl, but also the sharp sting of knowing that, in her eyes, he was nothing more than another man.
Yet he held the girl in his arms tightly, his voice softer than ever as he repeated, “Xi, don’t cry. I won’t leave you. Never, ever!”
Even the Nine Heavens, Gods, and Buddhas will never take you away from me!
Exhausted from her tears, Xi Yue finally drifted into a deep sleep in Ji Mingyu’s arms.
Ji Mingyu held the girl’s small frame close to his chest, his gaze fixed on her with unwavering attention throughout the entire night. Not once did he shift his position or close his eyes.
As dawn broke, the silhouette of a woman in red suddenly appeared in the room.
She first cast a cautious glance toward the bed, sighing in relief when she saw the girl peacefully asleep in Ji Mingyu’s arms. Bowing slightly, she notified, “Master, Wu Nian has just returned from the Divine Realm. He says there’s something important to report.”
Ji Mingyu placed a soundproof barrier around the sleeping girl before slowly rising. His voice was calm as he replied, “I understand.”
Zhu Que cleared her throat and asked, “Master, are you going to take Miss Xi back to the palace?”
Ji Mingyu fell silent for a moment, recalling Xi Yue’s stunning performance in the Spirit Refining Domain and her carefree demeanor at the Heavenly Medical Valley. A soft, tender light flickered in his eyes.
Then he instructed calmly, “Never mind. Have Qiong Qi come over right away.”
Zhu Que paused, surprised. “What? Master, why are you having Qiong Qi come here?”
Wait… could it be what I think it is?
