They couldn’t afford to let the chance slip by. Tang Yin and his men were rushing at high speed, and it didn’t take long for them to approach the Ning State checkpoint.
Although it was just a temporary checkpoint, it was huge in scale. Just the outer fence itself was extended out for a few miles. There were many military tents and flags inside the checkpoint, with one of the huge flags embroidered with a ‘Ning’ character.
What a huge fortress of Ning State! Tang Yin was clicking his tongue after taking just a glance at it. Looking from the scale of their camp, it has to be more than a few thousands of people here, Wu Mei has given us some false information here!
Tang Yin was just disappointed, but the other Feng State soldiers were even more panicked. Each of them was pale and their hands which were holding weapons were trembling.
Sensing the fear of everyone, Tang Yin turned back while he was still rushing forward, he asked everyone with a smile, “Are you afraid?”
Feng State soldiers looked at each other; no one said anything. They knew it well enough that they were going to die in facing so many enemies, but they had no choice but to rush over. How could they not be afraid?
Tang Yin smiled lightly and said leisurely, “If God is going to cherish us and want to claim our soul sooner, wouldn’t it be nice as well?”
Pff! After listening to him, everyone couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Death was a terrible thing for anyone, but the way Tang Yin depicted was so relaxed and casual, as if it didn’t bother him at all.
However, his words did succeed in slightly relieving everyone’s tension. Zhang Bao whispered to him, “Big Brother Tang, if we can really get into the enemy camp, what should we do next?”
“Nothing much!” Tang Yin pouted at the direction of the camp and said, “Can you see the biggest tent in the center of the Ning State camp? After we go in, we’ll charge over there. As long as we can get close to it, it’s our victory!”
He had already made up his mind to defeat the enemy by capturing their chief. Once both parties came into contact, there was no chance of surviving as the enemy had greatly outnumbered them. Their only chance was to capture the chief of their enemies. That huge tent in the middle of the Ning State camp must be the place where the chief was. As for whether they could reach there and capture the enemy’s chief successfully, it depended on their luck.
“Understood!” Zhang Bao nodded.
As they were speaking, they were getting closer and closer to the gates of the Ning State checkpoint. At this time, several guards rushed over and stopped them. The guards leader shouted, “Stop!”
Tang Yin didn’t slow down until he got to the front of the leader. He said with a natural smile, “Brother, we are in a hurry; we must get through immediately!”
The guard’s leader shook his head and said firmly, “No! There is no order from above to let you through; I have no right to let you through.”
Tang Yin said, “We are really in a hurry!”
“No way regardless how urgent it is. What’s more, Captain Yu has already gone in to report, you’ll just have to wait here for a bit.”
Tang Yin knew that the Captain Yu should be the cavalry captain who just came out for interrogation. If they were to wait for the captain, he would blow their cover. Tang Yin smiled and asked casually, “When will Captain Yu come out?”
“How would I know?”
“You really can’t let us through?”
“No!”
After hearing the other party’s firm refusal, Tang Yin smiled and nodded. He turned back and walked over to his men saying, “If that’s the case, we’ll wait here.” He said so, but the smile on his face had disappeared and he winked at his men while signaling them to get ready to attack. At the same time, he raised his right hand and slowly grasped the hilt.
Since Tang Yin was not facing the guard leader, the guard leader certainly couldn’t see his movements. He shrugged and said, “If you’re tired, just sit down and rest. I guess it’ll take Capture Yu some time in there.”
“Oh?” Tang Yin asked, “Why is that?”
“Prince…” Without finishing his first word, the guard leader immediately realized that he had said something that should not be said. He put on a gloomy face and said, “You don’t have to know too much!”
Tang Yin rolled his eyes and waited no more. He pulled out his steel sword while he turned backward and made a strike without looking.
He’s too fast!
The strike was like a lightning bolt, piercing the throat of the guards leader in an instant. The guards leader didn’t even manage to see it clearly. When he realized something was wrong, he could already feel the coldness in his throat. He opened his mouth widely and wanted to yell, but he couldn’t spit out a word. He lost his balance and fell facedown.
Before he fell to the ground, Tang Yin drew the steel sword out of his throat. He then jumped high up and lightly stepped on the corpse’s chest, leaping over his head and rushed towards the guards who were standing behind.
None of the guards had thought that this soldier wearing their uniform would suddenly attack his own men. As the guards were still confused and stunned, Tang Yin’s quick strikes had sliced through their necks accurately.
Tang Yin moved past the several guards and rushed to the gate of the checkpoint.
Pu- After he had rushed forward for ten meters, blood started to spurt out from the bodies of the several guards. Their necks were cut by the blade. Red mist formed by their crimson red blood splashed in the air.
Seeing how Tang Yin had already rushed into the enemy’s checkpoint, over a hundred Feng State soldiers looked at each other. They no longer hesitated, braced themselves and clenched their teeth, rushing into the checkpoint reluctantly.
The Ning State checkpoint was caught off-guard. No matter how slow they were, they had realized that something was wrong at that moment.
When Tang Yin entered the checkpoint, the entire camp was chaotic; everyone was screaming and gong sirens could be heard constantly.
Tang Yin had no time to look after the hundred over Feng soldiers behind him. He dashed into the center of the checkpoints with the steel sword in his hand.
However, before he could get any further in, a few hundred Ning soldiers with long halberds rushed towards Tang Yin. They surrounded him with fierce faces.
A halberd was much longer than a spear, it was the longest among all weapons as it was three and a half meters long. Halberds were usually used in the confrontation between phalanx formations. It could be used for stabbing and hooking which was powerful. However, it was extremely inconvenient to be used in close melee battles.
Seeing Tang Yin approaching them, Ning soldiers who were in the frontest row roared and stabbed with their halberds.
As the saying goes, one inch longer means one inch stronger. Dozens of shimmering cold halberds were stabbing against him, Tang Yin couldn’t be reckless and halted. He took a few steps backward.
He had just dodged the first round of attack from enemies; before he could balance himself, the second row of Ning soldiers came forward and aimed their halberds at multiple vital spots on Tang Yin’s body.
Tang Yin was helpless and could only retreat. However, the first row of Ning soldiers rushed over again and stabbed their halberds even fiercer.
Obviously, the other party was well trained for formation battle. One after another wave of attacks with no pause in between were preventing Tang Yin from catching his breath. Plus, the halberds were too long for Tang Yin to even reach them for counterattacks, he could only defense passively.
He took a deep breath. If the situation continued as it was, he would eventually get too tired from enemies’ attacks before he could hurt any of them.
A close melee battle is the best tactic to counter a long weapon!
Tang Yin was very experienced in actual battle, and he was a quick thinker. He squinted his eyes and saw another wave of attacks from his opponents. He squatted down out of a sudden and dozens of halberds swept across his back. Without waiting for their next wave of attacks, he brought himself close to the ground and rolled over under the Ning soldiers’ feet.
“Ah–“
All the Ning soldiers were shocked and wanted to maintain a distance from Tang Yin. However, it was too late.
Tang Yin waved his sword out horizontally before he got up, then it was followed by two muffled sounds. Two soldiers got their legs cut off by his sword. Before they fell to the ground crying in pain, he sprang up from the ground and rushed into the Ning soldiers formation.
When the two sides were at a distance, the long halberds in the hands of Ning soldiers were very powerful. However, those halberds were completely useless in the melee battle and were getting in the way.
Entering the enemy’s crowd, Tang Yin was like a tiger that went into flocks. He waved the steel sword freely, stabbing and chopping the enemies. Only a few moments later, dozens of Ning soldiers were laid to the ground by him.
Just as Tang Yin was getting excited from the killing, someone shouted behind him, “Big Brother Tang, leave them to us!”
Tang Yin heard him and he forced the enemies to back off with a few strikes. As he looked back, it turned out that Zhang Bao and the rest had caught up with him, and they were now fighting against the Ning soldiers.
Nice timing! Tang Yin didn’t think much about it and agreed to him. He gave up in continuing fighting with the Ning soldiers, then he rushed into the center of the phalanx with the steel sword in his hand.
In the checkpoint, Ning soldiers were indeed large in numbers, but they were scattered throughout the camp and completely unprepared. They were in deep panic as they faced a sudden attack from their opponents.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Tang Yin dashed all the way in. He killed his way in when he encountered an enemy’s squadron; when he came into a brigade, he wouldn’t try to fight, but just changed his direction to avoid them.
He used guerrilla tactics all the way, and before he knew it he had actually gotten close to the central tent in the checkpoint.
However, there were too many Ning soldiers around the tent at this point. Teams after teams of Ning soldiers were surrounding and guarding the tent securely. No man could ever get in there, perhaps not even a fly could fly into the tent.
However, the more they acted this way, the more Tang Yin could be sure that the chief inside this tent was of a special status.
He hid in a small tent not far from the central tent, and he opened a small hole on the tent using his steel sword. He peeped out out the hole while trying to make up a plan in attacking.
He was confident in his own skills, but he was not confident to the point where he would fight hundreds and thousands of enemies just by himself.
Just as he was thinking hard about the plan, he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. The tent clothes was lifted up and a Ning soldier strode in.
His uniform was no different from an ordinary Ning soldier. He was wearing silver helmet and armor, but there was just an extra dark red mark on the chest.
The Ning soldier was apparently very surprise to see Tang Yin here. He asked surprisingly, “Who are you? Why are you here?”
